A. Baker Restaurant Host (and local Pocket Rocket)
: What’s your roller derby name?
Jemma Scarr: Scarlett Nopantson. I don’t really like pants because they’re always far too long for me! (I’m only 4ft11!)
: If you could have a super power, what would it be?
JS: Time manipulation. The ability to stop time or slow it down/speed it up would be amazing. I would never miss a deadline, plus I’d be able to take a bath for as long as I want and not have to worry about anyone needing the loo.
: What’s your most prized possession?
JS: My Harry Potter books. I’ve read the series over 17 times. My brothers passed them down to me and I’ve passed them on to my 8 year old nephew, with a signed contract that he has to give them back.
: Favourite dish?
JS: Working in a restaurant, it’s pretty hard to choose as I get to try so many different, incredible things. Having said that, I could probably live off the Roast mushrooms and never get sick of them.
: What song/album do you have on repeat at the moment?
JS: This Is All Yours, which is Alt-J’s most recent album. I get the most work done when I’ve got my headphones in and I’m chilling out to it.
: Preferred form of transport? Trains, planes or automobiles?
JS: Skates! In summer you can catch me skating to NewActon along the bicycle paths from Dickson.
: Sweet or savoury?
JS: Savoury. Having an addiction to cheese is a real thing, believe me.
: If you went to a Disney dress up party, who would you go as?
JS: One of my jobs throughout University was dressing up as Disney Princess each Sunday, so I’ve got a box full of costumes. The most elaborate dress I own is Belle’s Ballroom gown from Beauty and the Beast, I feel like an actual Princess.
: How do you have your coffee?
JS: Frequently. And caffeinated.
: What will your next tattoo be?
JS: Both my parents had rose tattoos, so I’ve got a rose in memory for each of them. Next up will be some lilies for my sisters.
What are a few of your favourite destinations/things to do in NewActon?
The suitcase rummage! I’m a big fan of buying clothes second hand as I like to imagine the history of a piece of clothing – imagine wearing a dress that has seen someone’s first kiss? Or it’s been through a break up?
Yeah, I daydream a lot. Luckily NewActon encourages that.
I spent New Year’s Eve in A. Baker's Herb Garden, glass of bubbly in hand, surrounded by my best friends. I thought we’d miss the fireworks, but when midnight hit, they were reflected off the Nishi Building and it felt like we were showered in stars. It was one of the most memorable ways to ring in the New Year. I’m excited for the next one.
